We restructured the menu around a number of our key dishes – those that we feel are not possible to remove…in football terms – Steven Gerrard of liverpool…the strong dishes which are kind of the spine to the menu. We cooked and tasted quite a few starters before agonisingly agreeing that all can not go on the menu, and a ruthless verdict was then concluded!
The core starters on our menu are clear to our regular diners.. .crispy duck spring rolls, and salt and pepper ribs. These 2 dishes receive such critical acclaim by our guests that I think thete would be uproar if we were to remove them.
Duck spring rolls are not hard to come by of course, but home made hand rolled are, which is where we stand out from the crowd.
Our salt and pepper ribs have a similar uniqueness…pork belly to be, slow braised with aromatic spices, chilli, and soya stock then chilled and pan fried with special spices.. .they are a huge winner!
Don’t expect to see these dishes replaced in 2018!
We seemed to attract many more locals and tourists to The Gatehouse this year, many mote returning guests and some great feedback was received!
We were pleasantly surprised this year too when Masterchef was aired on BBC. Normally this brings out the worst in some people…everybody becomes a food critic, some crazy statements are made, and guests think they are Greg Wallace…thankfully 2017 this trend changed and we served 99% of lovely people!
We were also listed in the prestigious Hardens Guide 2017, amongst some of the best restaurants in the country.
We were voted in the top 3 steak restaurants in Wales by bestrated.com and top 10 restaurants in Wales by the Raleigh Guide!
2017 has been fantastic….2018 has a lot up it’s sleeve that we will mention in due course…so keep your eyes peeled!
Best of luck for 2018!
